Vancouver as Caprica City
Fictional cities rarely fail to arouse fascination even in the most non-architectural (and non-geek? hmm questionable) of circles, and perhaps even more so when those imaginary cities are built upon the ones we already know. The arrival of new TV series and prequel to Battlestar Galactica–Caprica–helps us to a fresh sci-fi serving of Caprica City, capital of the Twelve Colonies of Man in the Cyrranus Galaxy…or better known to us earthlings as Vancouver, Canada. The re-imagining of Vancouver offers up some way cool CG augmented skylines, familiar landmarks like Moshe Safdie’s Vancouver Public Library before its fall to the Cylons, and other groovy design details that you can check out after the jump. Don’t miss it!

The Graystone house. Lions Bay?
Funky tennis court design with activated line sensors
Oh, and this isn’t exactly architecture, but we thought the recurring cut-corners aesthetic applied to glasses was kinda cool, too.
Enjoy!

This reminds me of “Parallel Universe Vancouver”, a Douglas Coupland’s map of Vancouver with all the locations for films mimicked with it’s streets.
Seems that Vancouver does for a lot of places like Bel Air, Sapporo, Disneyland, San Francisco, Liverpool… http://furyandfrost.com/?p=454
Your blog gave everyone here at the Caprica VFX department a big boost, right when we needed one! Thanks so much!

Just came in from the Drexfiles and wanted to thank you for bringing this to my attention.
There was an entry from Doug a while back about the architecture of Tokyo that you might enjoy.
Glad I got the link to your blog at drexfiles today, Ana! I love the great shots you’ve got posted here, and I’m really enjoying seeing “Caprica City” in the show!!
Those BSG/Caprica folks sure know how to turn out some great visuals, as well as a great show!
I’m interested in architecture and how it is advancing articsticdally and as part of society, so I’ll be looking at more of your blog. Actually, I’ve already gotten caught up in the twitter links at the top…. :)
The glasses are actually from Blade Runner. Eldon Tyrell wears them.
