Weird and Wonderful, Only in Russia

April 13, 2010

View from a luxury Moscow penthouse. Photo from russos

Beware of a blog called English Russia, you’ll be sucked in and never get out. I got lost amidst their architecture tags, and just had to share a selection of  their entries on the weird and wonderful structures of Russia. As they say…”Only in Russia!” Enjoy!

What looks like a still from a Star Wars Attack of the Clones city is actually a photograph from a Russian skyscraper in Cloudy Weather.

—-

A map depicting the locations of the Seven Sisters Project in Moscow, one of most ambitious projects that took place between 1947 and 1953 on the orders of Jozef Stalin with the aim of rivaling seven U.S. skyscrapers.

—-

A busted waterpipe isn’t all bad news. It can give a building a much-needed shower.

—-

The story of the Kremlin in pictures.

—-

A Russian jet attached to a building. No further comments.

—-

Remants of a seemingly floating Soviet grainery near Odessa. It’s real, alright.

—-

Photographs of Moscow contrasts.

—-

Apparently, this is how some Russian technicians install air conditioning units. Brave soul.

—-

It’s not an oversized Spaceinvaders grafitti, it’s not QR code-building…it’s a gigantic crossword puzzle!

—-

This one is a bar-code building, by contemporary architects Vitruvius and Sons.

Stunning photographs of Russian structures by Alexander Petrosian

Thirsty for more? We told ya!

But then again, I dont make it to Penthouses to often either.
